An Easy Way to Accept Online Payments for Catholic Websites

For three years, I directed adult formation on the parish level in Texas.  Thereafter, I spent five years directing Evangelization, RCIA, and New Media Outreach for the Catholic Diocese of Sacramento, California.

During both tenures, I found a great need in the Church to easily allow parishioners to pay online, quickly and effortlessly, for a variety of causes such as religious education enrollment and event registrations.

Recently, we launched an incredible new feature that allows you to create custom web forms with payment.  Ask any question you desire, such as:

  • What is your name?
  • What is your email address?
  • What is your phone number?
  • Which option do you choose...
  • Do you have any comments you wish to share?

Then, require a payment to submit the form.

It's so easy and funds are deposited into your bank account on a 2-day rolling basis with no additional monthly fees.

Visitors can use Visa, MasterCard, American Express, JCB, Discover, and Diners Club.

Payment Methods

Low Transaction Fees

The transaction fees are among the lowest in the industry. If you're a 501(c)3 non-profit, such as a parish, transaction fees are only 2.2% plus 30¢ per transaction for all credit card transactions with the exception of American Express, which is 3.5%.  And all transaction fees are waived for the first year or up to $15,000!

If you don't have 501(c)3 status, the transaction cost is 2.9% plus 30¢. That's it.  The remainder is deposited into the bank account of your choice within 2 days.

Dynamic Payment Amount

You can set the amount to be charged to a fixed price such as $15:

Or, you can have a dynamic price amount.

There are two ways to set a dynamic price amount:

1. Create a text box and allow the visitor to enter any amount they desire.  This is perfect for one-off donation forms, allowing visitors to give however much they please:

2. Create a list of options and assign an amount to each option.  This works wonderfully for options that have different prices, such as T-shirt sizes, or numbers of registrants, or different levels of registrations:

Payment is quick and easy

Security

The solution we're using is secure and PCI-compliant, so you can rest assured that your visitors' credit card information is kept confidential and secure.  In fact, the credit card information never even touches our server!

Everything is handled on the backend by Stripe, one of the world's leading online payment processors.  Stripe is used by Twitter, Shopify, Pinterest, Lyft, Uber, and other major companies you know and trust.

Your visitors never leave your website.  The payment form appears seamlessly:

You even get to specify what appears on the visitor's credit card statement!

Stripe gives you a complete dashboard wherein you can see every payment processed, all transaction fees, and all transfers to your bank account.  You can easily refund payments with the click of a button.

Stripe is such a great solution that we use it for our own business!  (Yes, we eat our own dog food, so to speak.)
